It seems like nowadays just
about everyone has a blog except me.
Until now.
I really enjoy reading sewing
blogs and find many of them inspiring, sometimes to the point where I want to
totally rip off and steal their idea.
And I mean that in the nicest possible way – imitation is the sincerest
form of flattery, right? The likelihood
of them running into me on the street and calling me out on it is virtually
nonexistent since they live in different cities or even different countries. Plus they all seem really nice so we’d
probably end up complimenting each other’s clothes and discussing finishing
techniques or something like that. They
might even be interested that they inspired someone else and what that other
version looks like. I wouldn’t imply
that I want to inspire people too, but isn’t it great seeing how differently
people can interpret the same pattern?
And have it all turn out looking great?
I’m sure it’s much more interesting looking at that version than reading
a comment saying they made the same thing without any pictures. Ugh, now I remember what’s taken me so long
to get this thing going – besides deciding on a name and layout – pictures. I will have to get better about taking those
since a blog about sewing without any photos would be pretty boring.
Like a lot of people who sew
I’m pretty much self-taught. I picked up
some from my mom and a middle school Hom Ec class years ago but really didn’t
do much with it. Then I got into sewing
my Halloween costumes each year. The
great thing about costumes is you can try all sorts of new techniques and even
if it doesn’t turn out perfectly it’s still way better than a store bought
one. After a few years of this and a few
home dec projects it finally dawned on me that maybe I should try sewing real
clothes. Because if I can sew a costume
for one night surely I could sew something that could be worn the rest of the
year. After that I never looked back.
So here I am, joining the
ranks of people who blog about sewing because they don’t have people they can
talk about it in person with. Which
technically isn’t true, there’s a sewing studio just down the block from me
filled with lovely people who sew or are learning how. But our schedules don’t always match up.
P.S. Thanks to a number of
sewers who also knit I recently got into that as well. Because what I really needed was another
creative outlet other than sewing… So
there will be some knitting posts as well. And while I won’t name any names I’m
totally blaming bloggers for this new hobby that I’m starting to rather enjoy!
